Moving to Manchester

It was this time last year that the status of my application on UCAS changed from ‘conditional’ to ‘unconditional’ – time to begin the admin fun! Accommodation, plane tickets, health insurance and, the biggest issue, packing, all had to be sorted out by September. There seemed to be plenty of time for everything, but when you squeeze in goodbye visits to your relatives all across the country, a volunteering project and the last holiday spent with your childhood friends, September seems to come out of nowhere!   (more…)

Sporting success beyond the Dentist Chair…

Students at The University of Manchester not only study degrees that can often mean they are in University a minimum of 23 hours a week, but they also manage to balance this with numerous extra-curricular activities. We talk to Lauren Palmer, 5th Year Dental Student who has coached an U14 Local Netball Club team from Tameside who were recently crowned National Club Champions, in addition to being assistant coach for The University of Manchester Netball Club

The AU Executive Committee

The Athletic Union (AU) is the umbrella term for the University of Manchester sports teams, competing against other Universities in BUCS (British University and College Sports). The AU consists of 87 teams across 36 sports, separated into 42 different sports clubs and the focus is about representing the University of Manchester in competitive sport.

The Executive Committee head up the Athletic Union and consist of the following posts:

  • Sport Sabbatical Office (SSO)
  • Events Officer
  • BUCS Wednesday Officer
  • Events Based Sports Representative (BUCS)
  • Communications Officer

The roles are elected at the Summer AGM and these blogs aim to give you an insight into what each of the roles entail.
